Aroma Training & Blind Wine Tasting
RHONE VALLEY: North/South special
enjoy the "Crème de la Crème" including (among others)
Côte Rôtie, Gigondas and... world-famous ChateauNeuf-du-Pape...
with Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe!!
Continuing a line almost due south of Burgundy lie the
vineyards of the Rhône valley. This is an area of
contrast. In the North, some of the world's longest-lived
wines are produced: rare and aromatic whites; tannic
and massively structured reds. In the South, a veritable
sea of hearty everyday red is produced, but so too are
the famous and high quality wines of
Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas, as well as sweet
wines of high quality.

The name Châteauneuf-du-Pape means "The Pope's
new castle", a reference to when nearby Avignon
became the home of the papal court in the 14th century.
No fewer than 13 grape varieties are permitted in
Châteauneuf-du-Pape, which is easily the leading wine
of the Southern Rhône.

Aroma Training
Using the educational and absolutely FUN tool Le Nez
du Vin © ("The Nose of Wine", 54 aromas)
developed by
French wine professional & aficionado
Jean Lenoir, you
will learn:
- how to recognize aromas... and simply develop your
sense of smell!
- how to classify them and make the difference between
aromas from the same category
(fruits, flowers, spices...)

Blind Tasting
In the same time, you will also BLIND taste around 6
wines very representative of the Cotes du Rhone...
including some
Viognier, Roussanne/Marsanne, Cotes
Roties, Gigondas, ChateauNeuf du Pape (the GREAT
Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe)
...
... and you will learn:
- how to taste wine
- how to detect grapes and specific wine areas based
on the aromas you are scenting... and that you learned
to recognize in the 1st exercise.
